The first night in a bed after camping always feels great. After arriving at the house of my mom's friend, I got a great sleep and woke up motivated to bird. The Desert Foothills Park in southern Phoenix was where I headed and where I got great views of some lifers, like this pair of Lesser Nighthawks active in the morning light:

Not a great look but a lifer--my first Curve-billed Thrasher! |

Some dogs out for a walk at the park--one which was not happy with me or my camera, one which didn't have a care in the world. |
Just as I was about to leave the park, I noticed a little flash of green and got very excited. A pack of Rosy-faced Lovebirds had perched in a bare tree and let me take a few photos.
The South Mountain Park was up next, and while I didn't see the Cactus Wrens I was hoping to, I did hear one and got a decent walk in as the temperatures climbed.
After that, I went back to the house where I had a chance to catch up with my mom and enjoy some cooler air. While they went out to bop around town, I went to the backyard and took some quick shots of some Mourning Dove nestlings.
